Schneider CIO Shaleen Devgun Honored With Forbes CIO Innovation Award

Forbes CIO Innovation Award - Shaleen Devgun

Award honors leaders who make a substantial impact through innovation and leadership in information technology

GREEN BAY, Wis. – (Jan. 25, 2019) – With its commitment to developing and implementing cutting-edge technological advancements, Schneider (NYSE: SNDR) has garnered praise as a leader in innovation. Forbes has recognized these efforts, awarding Schneider Chief Information Officer Shaleen Devgun with its 2018 CIO Innovation Award.

The award recognizes technology executives making a substantial impact on their company’s revenue growth through innovation and leadership in information technology. Devgun is the sole winner in the sixth class of the award.

“At Schneider, we have always believed in being a pragmatic early adopter of technology to benefit customers and drivers,” Devgun says. “Our ability to use technology to present timely information helps stakeholders make the important decisions that drive their businesses.”

Devgun and his team have been a driving force behind a number of recent innovative technological enhancements at Schneider, including the development and implementation of telematics on company assets, Internet-of-Things devices and app development.

Schneider had pioneered the first in-cab two-way satellite communication system in 1989. Regular, intelligent updates ensured the system kept a leading pace for decades, but in the last few years, it became clear that the time had come to make a significant shift. The single-purpose system became outdated and depended completely on one vendor – a critical operational risk. Updating the system across tens of thousands of tractors and trailers would be a significant undertaking, but Devgun and his team were up for the task.

The new platform uses geo-location and a rules engine to enforce compliance with federal, state and local regulations, as well as company policies. Drivers in over 10,700 Schneider trucks use the system to manage work assignments, report activities and track time. Constantly driven by data gathered by GPS and entered by the user, the reengineered platform streamlines driver actions and maximizes efficiency.

“Innovation and technology are in our DNA,” says Schneider CEO Chris Lofgren. “Our success is dependent on aligning the flow of information through technology and making it available to people, so they understand the implications of the decisions they make. That’s at the heart of operational excellence and who we really are.”
