CSX updates
- CSX will resume running trains through the Howard Street Tunnel on Friday, 9/26, resulting in faster transits between Florida and the Northeast.
- Reverting to standard routing will also eliminate an interchange in Baltimore, MD.
- While CSX’s portion of the project has come to an end, there are a handful of municipal bridges that will need to be expanded along the route. These bridge expansions are expected to be completed around Spring 2026 and will allow CSX to run double stack along the entire I-95 corridor.
Union Pacific updates
- Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern are launching a new domestic intermodal service on October 20, originating and terminating in the Louisville, KY market, with interchange in Kansas City.
- The new service will connect Louisville with Los Angeles, Lathrop, Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City and Houston.
- You can learn more about this service in Union Pacific’s recent news release.
- Rail cutoff from Lathrop to KCIT (Kansas City), Dupo (St Louis), TCIT (Twin Cities), and the CSX and NS steel wheel Chicago interchanges is changing from 15:00 to 13:00.
- This change will allow for improved slotting and departures from Lathrop with minimal impact to Schneider transits.
- Lathrop to Global 2 (Chicago) traffic will not be impacted.
CPKC updates
- CPKC has made changes to how Mexico-to-CSX Southeast traffic departs, enhancing overall performance. As of September 2, Mexico traffic is now blocked on Train 181, which departs daily for Chicago.
- This change has eliminated departure delays in Mexico.
- Additionally, manifest work in Shreveport has been removed, resulting in a smoother CSX connection and faster customer transits.
- Schneider has also seen improved transit times between Atlanta and Dallas as a result of these changes.
- CPKC expects SENASICA inspectors to be on-site at the new Americold facility within the IFG (Kansas City) terminal in the first half of 2026.
- This partnership will enable customs pre-clearance at the terminal, allowing previously restricted commodities, such as pet food, to move cross-border via intermodal rail into Mexico.
