GREEN BAY, Wis. (December 20, 2023) Schneider National, Inc. (NYSE: SNDR), a premier multimodal provider of transportation, intermodal and logistics services, announced today the company has been recognized as one of the Innovation Award winners for the Second Annual Thoroughbred Sustainability Partner Awards. This annual award recognizes Norfolk Southern customers and suppliers who are leaders in sustainability.

The Innovation Award identifies technology innovations that have significantly contributed to a more sustainable future in a novel, relevant and impactful manner. This year, Schneider operationalized nearly 100 battery electric Freightliner eCascadias, leading the industry in adopting new technologies for lower-emission shipping.

Schneider’s sustainability initiatives offer customers the chance to lower their carbon footprint and support larger sustainability goals, and the company currently operates one of the largest electric fleets in the country. Schneider has hauled over 1 million emission-free miles of customer freight since the start of 2023, avoiding approximately 3.3 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions – the equivalent of removing more than 330 gas-powered passenger vehicles from the road for a year.

In order to charge the BEVs, Schneider worked alongside various stakeholders in California to construct a charging depot half the size of a football field, which opened this summer at its Southern California Intermodal Operations Center. The charging site features 16 350 kW dual-corded dispensers, allowing 32 trucks to be charged simultaneously. The eCascadias achieve an 80% charge within 90 minutes and have a typical driving range of up to approximately 220 miles.
