This Privacy Policy describes how Schneider National Carriers, Inc. (“Schneider,” “us”, “we”, or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use the Schneider FreightPower® Carrier app (the “App”). Please take a moment to read this Privacy Policy. It contains important information about your personal information and how to work with us to keep it private and secure. About Schneider FreightPower®

Schneider FreightPower® is a full-service app that allows a carrier to manage all of their transactions with Schneider. With capabilities such as managing available capacity, information from the App can be used to recommend carriers for future shipments, which then can be booked directly within the App. The App uses location data provided by the driver’s mobile device as a proxy for the location of the shipment that the driver is carrying, enabling us and our customers to track the location of shipments in real time. Location data is transmitted by the App when the App is running, even if the driver is not actively using the App.

Personal information collected by the app

“Personal Information” is information that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with you. Personal Information does not include information that is publicly available, deidentified, or aggregated. The categories of Personal Information the App collects, include:

  • Identifiers such as your name, address, telephone number, email address, username and password for the App, third-party login information (for example, if you login via Facebook or Google), and the name of any applicable company, business or D/B/A;
  • Internet and other electronic network activity information, including your cellular service provider, interactions with the App, and the settings you select within the App or within your mobile device;
  • Geolocation Data, including your precise latitude and longitude;
  • Device information, such as your mobile device’s manufacturer and model information, operating system, language, and region settings;
  • Inferences from any of the above.

How the app collects personal information

When you download and install the App, you will be prompted to provide certain Personal Information (such as your name and contact information) in order to register and use the App. You will also be asked to create a username and password for the App, or may have the option to login via an existing third-party account (such as Google or Facebook). The App automatically collects Personal Information (such as your mobile device’s manufacturer and model information, phone number, operating system, language, and region settings). We also collect Personal Information from drivers via text/SMS communications. More information on our use of SMS messaging can be found here.

The App collects Geolocation Data in the form of your precise latitude and longitude coordinates. It uses your mobile device’s GPS system to collect this information, which is then transmitted to us electronically. Your coordinates may be processed in order to infer your street address location, heading, whether you are moving or stationary, proximity to a given location, and estimated time of arrival.

In accordance with industry standards and our customers’ requirements, the App begins collecting Geolocation Data four hours prior to the scheduled time of pickup. The App is designed to indicate when your geolocation is being tracked via a message at the top of the screen. Tracking stops when (a) you click the “Stop Tracking” button within the App, (b) the load’s status is marked as “delivered,” or (c) you disable the App’s access to your geolocation through your device’s settings menu. The App is configured to send a pop-up notice through your device when geolocation tracking begins; whether you receive a pop-up for each load you carry depends on the settings you have selected within your device’s settings menu.

How we use your information

The primary purpose for the App is to keep us and our customers informed about the location of customer shipments carried by third-party drivers. In many cases, our contracts with our customers require us to provide the type of real-time data we collect via the App.

We use the Personal Information you provide when you register the App in order to confirm your identity, link you and your location with the appropriate shipment, and to verify and error-check the data our App collects.

We also use your Personal Information to respond to inquiries, requests and comments from you and our customers, to notify you about future updates to the App, for security purposes, and to detect, prevent and mitigate fraudulent, harmful or illegal activities.

Sharing of personal information

We share Personal Information collected by the App in real time with the customer whose freight you are transporting for the business purpose of allowing the customer to track their shipment.

Schneider employs Service Providers to perform various functions on our behalf, including development, design and security for the App. From time-to-time, Schneider may provide your Personal Information to our Service Providers in order for them to perform functions on our behalf such as debugging or developing updates or improvements for the App. To ensure that your privacy is respected and protected, we provide our Service Providers with only the information they need to perform their services, and impose limits on how they can use the information.

Schneider may disclose Personal Information to comply with applicable law, court order, or subpoena.

We do not sell Personal Information collected by the App.

How we protect your information

The security of your Personal Information is important to us. We maintain administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect Personal Information against unauthorized destruction, loss, alteration, access, disclosure or use. However, no method of electronic storage or transmitting information over the Internet is completely secure. Accordingly, we cannot guarantee the security of our systems and databases and we accept no liability for any unintentional disclosure.

Please do your part to help keep your Personal Information secure by keeping your password confidential, changing it from time to time, and logging out after using the App.

Your California privacy rights

Schneider collects and processes Personal Information via the App as part of our role as a Service Provider to our customers, and in the context of your role as a professional driver. The App is intended to collect Personal Information solely in connection with the business-to-business relationship between you and us.

Requests to Opt-Out of the Sale of Personal Information
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (the “CCPA”), you have the right to opt-out of the sale of your personal information. However, because we do not sell Personal Information, there is no need to opt-out. If you have any questions, please contact us as provided below.

Other Rights Under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018
The App is intended exclusively for a commercial audience, and to be used solely in the business-to-business context. Therefore, the Personal Information we collect is not subject to all of the rights contained in the CCPA.

Consistent with California law, we will not discriminate against you based on your exercising of any of the privacy rights conferred by the CCPA.

Our services are not for children

The App is intended for trucking industry professionals. It is neither targeted towards, nor intended to be used by, children under the age of 16.

Changes to this privacy policy

Schneider reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time. If we change our Privacy Policy, we will notify you via the App and/or by email. A copy of this Privacy Policy is available within the App’s “More” menu.
