Key Actions Shippers Can Take to Protect Their Freight

  • Document truck and trailer number and ensure all shipments have proper paperwork.
  • Inspect trailer doors and locking mechanisms to ensure they are securely attached. Conduct regular inspections and check for signs of tampering or unauthorized items.
  • Implement high security, cable and or/padlock seals instead of standard truck seals.
  • Visibility of the lifecycle of the load by utilizing enhanced security services and limiting those who have access by providing ID badge scanning.
  • Record what's happening at your facilities on the dock and yard with CCTV.
  • Educate and train your team to increase awareness of fraud and theft and to help report illegal or suspicious activity.
  • Validate the driver’s DOT or MC number, ensuring it matches the carrier or broker number that was assigned.
  • Confirm the carrier understands where the load is picked up and delivered. Also inform the carrier of any changes or adjustments that have been made to pick up or drop off locations.
  • Require carrier to provide unique pickup number prior to loading.
