Exports from Mexico continue to increase as a whole

For a larger picture of exports from Mexico as a whole, as of third quarter in 2022, exports continue to be at all-time highs – 43% higher than imports, and 35% higher than the same period in 2021.

This trend of much higher exports than imports from Mexico has been occurring for about 10 years but has drastically accelerated since the pandemic. From a transportation perspective, for every southbound shipment there are close to double that amount flowing northbound to the U.S.

For these reasons, it is important to diversify freight strategies and to develop resiliency in shipper cross-border strategies. Schneider works with our shippers to study and optimize their networks and to develop a Capacity StackingSM strategy, utilizing multiple modes of transportation for their cross-border freight. For many shippers, this results in expanding beyond only utilizing truckload freight and adding modes like Dedicated and Intermodal.
